Announced with great fanfare on Thursday, December 11 during the associative highlight of Open Source Experience, Projets Libres becomes the podcast of LinuxFr.org. Since April 2023, the Projets Libres podcast has been shedding light on the projects, communities, and individuals that make up the free and open source ecosystem. The episodes are regularly promoted on LinuxFr.

While keeping its original name, it is now integrated into the galaxy of the LinuxFr site to offer, in addition to dispatches, newspapers, links… a regular audio format dedicated to free software, its actors and its projects. This merger will not change the editorial line of the podcast, but will make this work a long-term one. In the short term, it includes a new logo and generic for the podcast, and a link to access the podcast from LinuxFr.org.
LinuxFr.org, for its part, doesn’t really need to be introduced here: the French-language community site dedicated to free software since 1998 brings together dispatches, newspapers, links, forums, polls, opinion pieces and other content published by the community. The arrival of an audio format is therefore a natural evolution to further enrich the content highlighted. But if you want to know more about LinuxFr.org, you should know that we had our dedicated episode two years ago and that we invite you to listen to it !
Why this rapprochement?
The podcast has seen an acceleration in 2025, and the need for a legal entity has been felt. The idea is to raise funds to finance our work, but also to specify the non-profit purpose and the motivations of the team. Rather than creating yet another association that would have to be taken care of, to the detriment of the time spent making podcasts.
In addition, we clearly sense that the two communities overlap and like to discover Projets Libres by listening to feedback, interviews or technical discussions… And LinuxFr.org has a community interested in this type of content. The merger will make it possible to:
- Increase the visibility of existing and future episodes.
- to promote synergies between the writing of dispatches and audio production (interviews associated with a dispatch, audio complements of articles, extended discussions, etc.);
- To offer a single point of entry to the written and audio editorial content of the site.
Don’t worry: the podcast keeps its editorial line, its name and its style.
In concrete terms, how will it go?
A new opening credits and a new logo will appear very quickly, but for the rest, not much changes for people who already listen to Projets Libres:
- the episodes remain available on the podcast’s historical website;
- the existing RSS feed continues to work in your regular podcast readers;
- The archives remain accessible.
On the LinuxFr.org side,
- A link in the header will appear next to Dispatches, Newspapers, Links, Forum, etc.
- Each new episode will be the subject of a slightly more extensive dispatch to continue the discussion
- Creating a dedicated email list
Everything remains under a free or open license, in the continuity of what LinuxFr.org and the podcast were already doing.
And for the future?
We will work on further integration, but it has yet to be imagined. And like everything related to LinuxFr.org, this rapprochement is above all intended to be community-based. Do you have an idea for a topic? Do you maintain a free project and want to talk about it on the microphone? Would you like to participate in a recording, propose a review, or simply give your opinion?
Feel free to let us know in the comments, or to contact the podcast team.
Happy reading, and see you soon for a new episode! 🎙️
